Executive Consulting

Do you want ‘fix’ or do you want ‘better’?

Executives tend to seek outside help for two main reasons: to fix something or to create something better.
It’s a trick question. To fully understand why, watch the video.

Video key points:

  • Business leaders and managers tend to answer ‘Better’.

  • When asked why, they respond in terms of 'wrong' and 'against'.

  • In other words, they want ‘better’, but think ‘fix’.

  • It is difficult to build a sustainable competitive strategy based on ‘wrong’ and ‘against’. Doing so will create a reactive strategy, reacting to what-is or what-was.

  • Sustainable competitive strategies are proactive, designed to create ‘what-can-be’.

  • My secret to strategy success? Build your strategy on what you are ‘for’ once you are sure that your ‘for’ is not simply the opposite of your ‘against’.

Services

Sustainable (strategy) success starts with clarity on what you believe is right and what you are for; not with what you think is wrong or what you are against. This often takes a shift in perception to see differently.  And then an appropriate shift in behavior to make it happen. That's why my consulting services aim to trigger shifts in strategy-perception and shifts in execution-behavior.

Kick-Shifts Core-Shifts Mind-Shifts
These are intense, focused interventions, designed to create shifts in perception and in behavior powerful enough to produce long-lasting positive results, while taking up little corporate time (½-3 days). These are in-depth strategic interventions which last 3 months or more, typically involving strategy development and execution, the resultant management of change and executive coaching. (Related: turnaround; transitions; start-up sustainability.) These stretch your mind and leave you motivated and energized. These include seminars and talks (public or in-house), and our own books, articles, CDs, videos and newsletters.
Spot the Trojan Horse
Day-to-day detail can become so boring that threats are misjudged and opportunities overlooked.

The SHiFT Trigger will help you:
(a) spot a Trojan Horse situation, and
(b) identify where to focus your energy to make an immediate impact.

Strategy Development (or Re-alignment)
Over time, a gap tends to develop between what your organization offers and what the market expects. Our process is aimed at closing that gap so that you achieve sustainable success.

Your executive team will complete our in-depth Strategic Refocus Assessment tool as well as the SHIFT Trigger; you will get a goal-focused strategic action plan, which is also designed to be the agenda for your monthly executive meetings.

Seminars and Workshops
These range from 2-4 hours and are customized to your needs:
Strategic Advance (not ‘retreat’)

We think you would rather ‘advance’ your team and your organization.

We structure our advances to move you forward. Our SHIFT Trigger is used to create a common understanding and secure a shared commitment for focused action - the basis for effective execution.

Focused Execution
It happens. Your people are not executing according to the strategy.

Working with your executives and managers, we take your existing strategy and turn it into personal goals with due dates and measures of success. For added impact, this is easily linked to a bonus incentive program.

Talks and Presentations
These are ideal for breakfast or lunch meetings, or to kick-off a corporate event.  They range from
30-60 minutes on topics covering Nonsense-at-Work or Nonsense-in-Life.

Team Effectiveness

A team is only as good as the results it delivers. That is why our team building is focused directly on the results you want back at the office, not at the off-site. The bonus is you’ll get people who work in teams, not team players.

Executive Coaching
As an executive coach, my aim is simple: to make you more effective (and thus more successful) than you can become on your own.

Consider it this way. Some people like to do things on their own, even if it takes longer and brings more pain. Others prefer to save time and pain, and so they use an executive coach. In which camp are you?
